Jack Flaherty Traded to Miami Marlins for Minor League Prospects
Los Angeles Dodgers Acquire Minor Leaguers in Deal
The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly traded pitcher Jack Flaherty to the Miami Marlins for minor league prospects Jake Eder and Alex McFarlane, according to sources. Flaherty, a 27-year-old right-hander, has struggled with injuries in recent seasons but was a key member of the Dodgers' 2020 World Series championship team. Eder, a 23-year-old left-hander, is considered one of the top prospects in the Marlins' system, while McFarlane, a 22-year-old outfielder, is a rising star.
Marlins Bolster Rotation, Dodgers Get Young Talent
The Marlins are in need of starting pitching and Flaherty gives them a proven veteran to add to their rotation. Flaherty has a career 3.34 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 108 career starts. He missed most of the 2022 season with a shoulder injury, but he is expected to be healthy for the 2023 season.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, get two promising prospects in Eder and McFarlane. Eder has a 3.01 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 26 starts at the Double-A level. McFarlane is a switch-hitter who batted .298 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs in 120 games at the High-A level.
The trade is a win-win for both teams. The Marlins get a much-needed starting pitcher, while the Dodgers get two young players with high upside.
